An accomplished realtor with a background in food production, Jared Maites is a licensee in both Maryland and Virginia, and has experience in various areas of real estate, such as investment property, new construction, vacation properties, and urban living, among others. Currently, he works as a real estate agent with Compass, with a main focus on residential developments. A fine/studio arts and business minor graduate from Syracuse University, Jared Maites also specializes in suburban living.

Buying a home in a suburb is a huge step, considering suburbs are regarded as the best places to live, raise a family, and retire. When choosing to invest in a suburb, it pays to do thorough research and obtain facts that will help you determine whether a particular neighborhood is a good fit or not.

For starters, you should understand the historical price growth in a suburb, as well as current home values in the area you are eyeing to determine whether they are in line with the typical growth trajectory. Using this data, you can project how your sales opportunities could look like in the future should you decide to change neighborhoods.

School quality is tied to home prices, and this is critical if you have kids. While you can find general school ratings online, most of them don’t offer specific ratings for elementary, middle, or high school, or address how local schools measure against other institutions in the larger metro area. Call schools and inquire about safety policies, inclusivity efforts, availability of gifted programs, and how they manage struggling students.

An award-winning real estate agent, Jared Maites serves Compass Real Estate in the Washington, D.C. area. In addition to his professional activities, Jared Maites regularly spends time cooking and exploring the local food scene.

A member of the Vox Media family, Eater provides food news and information across a network of online platforms, and it recently released its list of the “best new restaurants” in 2019. Sixteen restaurants made the list, including Washington D.C.’s Call Your Mother.

Call Your Mother calls itself a "Jew-ish" deli, and it made Eater's list in part for its ability to inspire a practically fanatical following for old-world deli culture. The publication describes Call Your Mother's latke the best in Washington, D.C., as well as highlights its bagels, which come with such smears as candied salmon. One bagel also comes dusted with za'atar spice. The restaurant is operated by Daniela Moreira, who was named an Eater Young Gun for her cooking talents at a young age in 2017, alongside Andrew Dana.
